Finished A Scanner Darkly.
I loved the bit near the end when Donna tells Arctor about a guy she know who saw God whilst on drugs. I was like "ohhh autobiographical".
Started Shutter Island. I am already in love with Lehane's way of conjuring imagery.

i own that book! oh god i own that book, the guy who wrote it is an absolute legend. i dont know how far you got but *spolier, spoiler!* there are actually only penguins in that opening prologue bit. id call that a rip-off, myself.
also i am currently reading Eoin Colfer's "And Another Thing...". thus far i have concluded the following:
Things "And Another Thing..." is:
a well-written, witty fan-fic of the hitchhikers series
Things "And Another Thing..." is not:
the 6th hitchhikers book
Re: What book are you reading at the moment?
after reading plenty of murakami, i am on the brink of dipping my toes into Larsson's Millenium trilogy. starting with the girl with the dragon tattoo.
but i am aware that the trilogy will take up a lot of my time. time that i dont really have right now.
but the lure is hard to resist none-the-less.

I know that the book is not much to do with penguins. Its just the first chapter really. But it is cool.Leonard Cohen wrote:andrews wrote:Penguins Stopped Play by Harry Thompson.

I am so totally reading Hitchhikers again!... And in turn, sketching scenes from it.

I only have Ford crouching at the moment, but soon enough there will be a bulldozer and an Arthur Dent.
Re: What book are you reading at the moment?
Ok- I have just finished The Road.
My conclusion is that it was alright. I was gripped during the first half, then the second half I honestly was beginning to loose interest. You might all shout at me for that, but I am being honest.
I was striving to finish it not because I was particularly enjoying it but I was curious to see how it ended and I was a little underwhelmed by the entire book.
I love his writing style, his imagery is stunning and I was disturbed by various bits in the book. But overall I wasn't blown away by it.
Now I have that out of the way I can fully concentrate on the Sherlock Holmes series. I am about half way through A Study in Scarlet, the first, and it is fantastic so far.

I understand your views on The Road. Even if i must disagree with them.
I'm reading Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. Its kinda boring. Which makes me sad considering how mesmerizing The Virgin Suicides is. But either way im gonna finish Middlesex because i feel that i should. It may pick up eventually.

Re: What book are you reading at the moment?
I finished A Study In Scarlet, and what a delightful read it was!
I am now onto The Sign of Four and have read only the first chapter, but by jove, was a chapter it was! Holmes does cocaine, whilst Watson tries to outsmart him. What fun!

Re: What book are you reading at the moment?
In Waterstones yesterday I purchased The Complete Series. It's a huge book, for only 10 pounds and using my trusty loyalty card I got it for £7.25! I thought 'all that book for 7 pounds and 25 pence pieces?!'
Could not resist that.
I am going to read now in fact, until Capu gets here. You're going to Lakeside, right?

Re: What book are you reading at the moment?
I am really tempted by the Complete Sherlock Holmes on amazon for £6.49 especially when i can get the complete Poe for the same price and in an equally sexy cover.
Will be buying em both on Tuesday i think.

Re: What book are you reading at the moment?
This Sherlock Holmes book is so worth the cheapness I paid for it. I mean, like, it's full of short stories and I'm like "Hey, I got time, let's read a short Holmes story" and I do and I finish it and it's all good. Yeah, I like it.
Re: What book are you reading at the moment?
Cannot wait for it to arrive. I wanna delve into some Holmes and some Poe.bluekatrock wrote:This Sherlock Holmes book is so worth the cheapness I paid for it.
