Youtube got a whole lot better, and i can finally watch the whole of Peep Show without buying it thanks to youtube.

WTWTA made me cry. It was so lovely. I loved it and would watch it again.

Terminator 2.
That James Cameron, he is pretty ledge making you feel genuinely sad that what is effectively a lot of hulking metal in human flesh is dying.
Gonna watch some 30 Days of Night Later.

Avatar blew me mind.

Im a Dapper Dan man!
i got round to watching wolverine couple of days ago. its a bit meh, average. will.i.am cannot act, and there was a sense of "lets throw every mutant into this film, thus not giving us enough time to make any one of them memorable." but i thought sabretooth and stryker made pretty decent villains
Re: The 'films that people have seen recently' thread.
I really disliked Wolverine. It was really boring i thought.

its pretty better than ok. it has hilary duff being hot in it, which is great importance, and it has ben kingsley doing the most perfect evil-guy schtick ive seen in years.andrews wrote:War Inc. which is ok.
even if i didnt think this to be the 2nd best film of the 90s, i would still say you should watch it, because of the awesomeness of that gagandrews wrote:the YOU-sual suspects.

Hilary Duff is hot in it. But i was expecting a smart satire. So i think i went in with the wrong expectations.Leonard Cohen wrote:its pretty better than ok. it has hilary duff being hot in it, which is great importance, and it has ben kingsley doing the most perfect evil-guy schtick ive seen in years.andrews wrote:War Inc. which is ok.even if i didnt think this to be the 2nd best film of the 90s, i would still say you should watch it, because of the awesomeness of that gagandrews wrote:the YOU-sual suspects.
I will indeed watch The Usual Suspects then.

Watched both in the end. The Usual Suspects is good but I was expecting some ultra clever masterpiece. I just got a very inventive crime drama with a totally unexpected twist.

Re: The 'films that people have seen recently' thread.
War, Inc. was pretty good.
Though I kept having this vision that no-one who worked on the film was aware that they were actually doing so, the project was getting out of hand & nobody could set it right.
If I were to sum the whole film up in one word, it'd be 'all over the place'.
But yeah, pretty good.
Smarter than the average action flick.
But with a tendency to overestimate its own intelligence.

Citizen Kane.
It'd been a while since I'd seen it, & much of the film except the beginning, middle & end had escaped my memory. All I can say is.. what a brilliant film!
Say what you like about Orson Welles, man, but Citizen Kane is a good movie.
Possibly not the greatest of all time, but it's definitely up there.
There was a documentary about/interview with Orson Welles afterwards,
but it was mostly silenced by playing Dissidia,
which I found to be quite a good game.
Perhaps the immediate above belongs in the 'games' section.
Whatever, man.

Re: The 'films that people have seen recently' thread.
I really wanna watch Citizen Kane.
I have re-watched The Wrestler. Which is an absolute masterpiece irrespective of any potential slicing of it. And i watched the making of doc on the dvd which was fascinating. Revealing how all the stunts in the matches where filmed live. And the matches where filmed at actual wrestling events using a real live crowd of wrestling fans. Which adds some nice authenticity to the film.
I just watched the short films of David Lynch. Im not gonna give my opinion of each. But i will say this. The Alphabet is great, The Grandmother is too long and his Lumière short is cool.

AGREED.
HAHA, LOOK WHAT I DID.
Moving on..
Palindromes was a film that was watched the other day.
It was very good it was, & it left me - if no-one else - slightly saddened and a little distressed by what had just transpired in front of my eyes.
Later that night I watched Dark City alone.
Dark City was also good.
I was very tired from all of the activities of the day,
so I fell asleep during the exciting, action-filled end.
I remember thinking as I fell asleep that it didn't matter that I was falling asleep because I had already got all that I needed to get out of the plot, and the rest was just the film wrapping up in an obvious way.
If there's a relentlessly unexpected twist in the last few minutes of flashing colours and loud shouty voices that I missed by falling asleep, please notify me and I will rewatch the end.
Thank you for reading, Blandrews.

Re: The 'films that people have seen recently' thread.
The ending is incredibly important. And the flashy colours and shouty voices are an awesome battle scene. If New Years is going ahead i suggest a watching of it.
Since Christmas Day i has watched:
Rich Hall live dvd. Not a movie but definitely funny.
The first two Michael Haneke movies from my lovely new boxset. AKA The Seventh Continent Im not sure why its called that and Benny's Video. Both very depressing and hard to watch. Typical Haneke fare really but both very good. The guy who plays Benny plays the main murdery guy from Funny Games. He makes such a convincing psycho its genuinely scary to behold.
And just now i finished watching James Cameron's The Abyss i watched the 171 min special edition version. You better believe it was awe-inspiring, amazingly pretty in parts and ultimately satisfying if very tiring. With an ending even a seer never saw coming.
EDIT: An interesting fact one of the sets from The Abyss still exists and can supposedly be seen at these google earth coordinates. 35° 2' 13.2" N, 81° 30' 43.2" W
EDIT2: On Christmas Day i caught the first 10 mins of Transformers 2. It contained two gags about one dog humping another. Michael Bay truly aims for the lowest common denominator.
And i rewatched The Half Blood Prince this time with my mum. Her verdict Dumbledore shouldnt have died. I then explained why it was necessary without revealing epic spoliers about The Deathly Hallows.

Re: The 'films that people have seen recently' thread.
this morning i watched annie hall, which i found to be very entertaining without really knowing why. it does everything decently well, and managed to get away with the plot/chronology being meandering.
then i watched in the loop, which i still think is really damn funny and pretty biting in terms of political satire. i forgot about the "i will hound you to an assissted suicide" line. man, i didnt realise you could still get away with that shiz. plus, steve coogan and james gandolfini!

Sherlock Holmes for a second time. I always enjoy these mystery/detective films more the second time around. Because once you know the plot you can pick up on all the subtleties and clues. And let us be clear the music is fantastic.
Last night i watched Waking Life which is unlike anything i've seen visually or in terms of narrative. The film consists of a guy wandering about listening to people talk about various ideas and concepts. With an underlying story about dreaming and the differences between dreaming and waking. That Richard Linklater he does a strangeness to my mind.

Re: The 'films that people have seen recently' thread.
Last night i watched Die Hard 2: Die Harder. Which belongs to that odd camp of films including Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Or films which are sequel to very good movies which somehow end up being great or even excellent despite having awful suffixes in the titles.
Just now i watched The Flying Doctors of East Africa and La Soufriere. Two Werner Herzog documentaries one about flying doctors the other about a volcano which threatened eruption in Gaudelope. Both movies where very good and moving tales of humanity. La Soufriere is the because Herzog narrates it and he has the most amazing voice i have ever heard. Seriously better than Morgan Freeman's.

Re: The 'films that people have seen recently' thread.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a brilliant, brilliant film.
Superbly scripted, & the pacing is impeccable.
In short, whoever started the chain of events which led to me finally getting to watch it should be thanked once and never again.
I may watch Coffee & Cigarettes tonight, but I won't.
I also won't watch Broken Flowers or The Limits of Control.
What a fantastic evening I won't have.

Re: The 'films that people have seen recently' thread.
Saturday night I could not for the life of me get to sleep. So I decided to stick on The Monkees movie 'Head."
I remember the first time I watched it (and oh yes, I was much younger and had not got into the annoying habit through film studies to anaylise everything) and thinking "Oh my god, this is the biggest pile of shit ever." But on watching it again, I was so astounded at how wrong and naiive I was.
It seems like a jumble of scenes with no narrative and surreal imagery and nothing more, but it's not! It's so full symbolism and underlying messages and wow, it's good! It tackles the Vietnam War (a huge subject at the time it was made), commercialism, using pop stars to sell products and how you stick a famous face on it and everyone would buy it no matter how silly the product, the beginning of manufactured bands. Plus, they totally take the piss out of themselves.
And...it was co-wrote by Jack Nicholson. What's that all about? And it's studied in film studies in America.
But yes, my conclusion is that it's awesome and cool and so very 60s surreal.

Re: The 'films that people have seen recently' thread.
this reminds me.... i was having a discussion about geekiness, and it was bandied about that it was impossible for a person to be zero geek, because that would require the person to be infinitely or ultimately cool. this particularly line of argument was stopped by claims that jack nicholson IS that man.
so what to people think. jack nicholson, epitome of cool?
