Re: Which Song Are You Listening To?!
this thread now has over 500 posts. good work, all!
it would be churlish to request recommendations and then ignore said recommendations. thus i am listening to tricky's "overcome", the opening track from maxinquaye.
excellent way to start an album
black steel is awesome.
hell is round the corner = deja vu.

you are lol, Blandrews
i am listening to flare gun by owen pallett
oh my word, heartland is the best album of 2010 so far. maybe for the meta-concept alone (its about a protagonist called lewis who is travelling to heartland to confront and kill his creator, owen pallett. pretension abound, folks!)

and yet there is a month of blankness in this thread.
why listen to a song and then not advertise it?
IT MAKES NO SENSE!

i will only advertise if it can be impregnated with discussion,
i am not laying it all out there like some kind of meat market.

Yeah man.
Did you also find that Discs 1 + 2 > Disc 3?
Though there's some really tasty songs spread throughout the album.
Like, a rather large majority of them.
So much singing. Sometimes for a full nine minutes.
I found that the arrangements really start to open up as the record (as a whole piece) progresses. She starts to allow a lot more room for instrumental sections & ting. Rather than more songs like No Provenance, which is six & a half minutes of PURE VOCAL GYMNASTICS.
On the whole, yeah.
I really dug it.

Blonde Redhead - Harmony
from La Mia Vita Violenta.
This sitar really speaks to me, as a fan of the sitar.
It is also delicious beyond all comprehension.
(that's totally how we should do this page now. LOL. )

I think that disc 1 is just perfect and discs 2 and 3 suffer slightly because of this. not in a way to suggest that the album shouldn't have been 2hours, cause it needs to be, its just every song on that disc is a masterpiece.
but yes, vocals. have one on me the track, that's like 11 minutes and she never rests throughout the whole thing, just sings sings sings. it is just wonderful.
i really dig it to. I mean there is so much to come back to and discover everytime you listen to it. And that is what i love the most about music. It is so wonderfully constructed that it all goes over your head on first listen, and then slowly as you listen again it just unravels and unfolds.
and that is why i listen to music.

I agree with everything you just said.
I definitely need to listen to the whole three discs again.
& then separately.
& then together again.
The thing that strikes is how much all three discs stand up on their own. Like, if the first two discs didn't exist, the third disc would be perfection. Actually, I'm not sure about that quite yet.
ANYWAY.
WHAT AM I LISTENING TO.
Gonjasufi - Sheep
from A Sufi And A Killer.
Hands down, best album of 2010 so far.
& I can say that while taking into consideration all of the quality releases there have already been this year. This isn't even personal opinion. This is cold, hard fact.
